About Us
Left Hand for Vulnerable is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting newcomers and seniors in our community. Our mission is to protect vulnerable individuals from abuse and exploitation while helping them build safe, stable, and fulfilling lives.
We provide guidance and assistance for seniors facing elder abuse and adults experiencing abuse or neglect. For newcomers, we offer help in overcoming employer exploitation, including wage abuse, unfair treatment, and workplace discrimination. Our team also supports newcomers in finding employment, settling into their new communities, and accessing essential services to ensure a smooth transition to life in Canada.
At Left Hand for Vulnerable, we believe in compassion, dignity, and justice for everyone. Together, we work to create a community where no one feels alone or powerless.
Support for Seniors
We are committed to protecting older adults from neglect, mistreatment, and isolation. Our senior support services include:
- Elder Abuse Prevention and Intervention: Confidential support for seniors facing physical, emotional, or financial abuse.
- Advocacy and Legal Guidance: Assistance in connecting with legal aid, social services, and community resources.
- Emotional Support and Counselling Referrals: Providing a safe space to share experiences and connect with professional counsellors.
- Community Engagement: Organizing activities and outreach programs to reduce loneliness and promote well-being.
Exploitation At Work
- Low or Unpaid Wages – Workers being paid less than minimum wage or not paid for overtime.
- Excessive Working Hours – Long hours without proper breaks or compensation.
- Unsafe Working Conditions – Lack of protective equipment, poor hygiene, or hazardous environments.
- Lack of Job Security – Temporary contracts or fear of unfair dismissal.
- Discrimination & Harassment – Based on gender, race, religion, disability, or other factors.
- No Access to Benefits – No health coverage, leave, or social security protections.
- Child or Forced Labor – Employment of minors or coercion to work against one’s will.
- Limited Freedom to Speak Up – Workers afraid to report abuses due to retaliation risk.
